How to add German Umlaute
As we have a couple of multilingual writers and translators in our Online Publishing Network, I’ve come across a frequently asked question: how to add German Umlaute .. especially when you have an English keyboard?

How to add German Umlaute
In normal German text, you can substitute the “Umlaute” that you don’t find on your English keyboard with letters like “oe” or “ae” etc, however, when doing official translations or writing some literary text or Editiorials for Newspapers and Magazines – just as an example -, you need to use the “Umlaute”.
The question is how to add German Umlaute on an English keyboard?
Yes, spend some time on your Control Panel under Languages and see how far you get on your WIN7, however, if you need a quick solution here are some shortcuts that may do the trick for you:
ALT + 0228 = ä
ALT + 0246 = ö
ALT + 0252 = ü
ALT + 0196 = Ä
ALT + 0220 = Ü
ALT + 0214 = Ö
Alt + 0223 = ß
What you do is hold down the ALT key and press the code in form of number combinations on the number pad to the right on your keyboard. Try it and let go… and suddenly you have the “ü” instead of the “ue” – like magic!
Hope this helped… and I don’t know why the text I clearly saved in here yesterday, suddenly disappeared today and showed double in syndications? Some gremlins around here again? And a very very slow net… oh well, this too shall pass… at least the German Umlaute shouldn’t steal your time and nerves anymore now
